What Student Jotter is doing to promote e-safety
There are various features incorporated into the Student Jotter software which enable teachers to keep an eye on how their students are interacting and to stop students using the internet in an inappropriate way.
These include:
- Swear word filter - If a swear word is written on your student's e-portfolio, it will be flagged to all administrators who will be emailed to alert them to the matter. Other students will be protected from the swear word immediately and will not be able to see it.
- Secure community - Students can only make friends with and see the profiles of other students in their school. All new students have to be approved by an administrator before they can see other student's portfolios and interact with them.
- Link checking - All links added to e-portfolios by students undergo rigorous testing against over 1.5 million listed URLs. Any blocked URLS will not be allowed to be added.
- Full teacher control - All administrators can edit or delete student's pages. A record of private messages is also kept for investigative purposes.
- Abuse button - A report abuse button is present on all student's e-portfolios, this will take them to the CEOP advice and help centre.
New developments will include a whistle feature which enables pupils to directly contact their administrator/teacher
